14 Apr

As promised, here are the remaining Women’s top 5 Most Wanted items for Spring 2015 according to Arlene Goldstein, Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction for Belk, Inc.

The Kimono is very trendy this season and makes for a nice cover-up.  This one is from Jessica Simpson.

The Jumpsuit is oh so trendy right now!  I am seeing them everywhere. You can certainly do a lot with them by adding belts, scarves or statement jewelry to jazz them up!  You can make them casual or formal. This one is from Karen Kane.

For a fun and casual look, an Easy-Fit Top makes perfect sense and can be paired with your favorite pair of jeans.  This striped one is from Kensie.

Flowers are not only popping up in your yard this season, they are popping up in clothes everywhere.  I think this is the hottest pattern of the season!  I am seeing floral prints everywhere and on everything from dresses to jewelry to shoes. This Floral Dress is from Vince Camuto.

Ever so popular this season is the statement jewelry and I LOVE it! Not only is it the statement necklace that we have seen the previous couple of seasons but now it is the Statement Earring more than ever.  These add a great “pop” to any outfit!  These pictured are from Vince Camuto.

I hope you have been making your list of the most wanted items you must have for your spring and summer wardrobe this year!

Women’s Most Wanted for Spring 2015

13 Apr

I am excited to share with you the “Most Wanted List” for Spring 2015 compiled by Arlene Goldstein, Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction for Belk, Inc. I have listed below 5 of the top 10 items on the Women’s Most Wanted List this spring.

First off are these Glitzy Sandals from Vince Camuto.  I am loving all the colorful and bedazzled looks of bling on the sandals this year.  It adds some “pop” to a very simple shoe statement and they can be worn with just about everything!

vince+camuto+sandal (1)

The “Soft Pant” is in trend again this season.  However, the length for spring has gotten shorter.  Culottes are making a comeback in a powerful way.  These are from 1.State Culottes

I am seeing a lot of “Matched Sets” this season in tops and bottoms in various prints.  This matching top and skirt is from Kiind Of. Buying in separates is always nice because you can purchase a different size in the top and bottom if your body style needs it.

Not only should your clothes change with the seasons but also your make-up colors can change.  Check out these “Look at me Lips” from Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour.

I love this Longer Skirt from Fever which is very trendy this season. Just remember to make sure the length is right for you and falls within the diamond openings of your legs to be the most flattering look for you.  It looks great paired with this chambray top for a refreshing springtime look.

Most Wanted List for Men for Fall 2014

5 Sep

O.K. I know most of my readers are female but we want to be fair to the males as well and show what the new Fall 2014 Trends are for them too. I hope you are starting to find some of the items I shared in my last post to add to your fall wardrobe. Since attending the Fall 2014 Fashion preview at Belk with Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, I am excited to share what’s new for the season for the men in your lives in this blog post.

Here are the ten must-have items for the season for men:

Chambray Shirt

This is an all time favorite that is always in style! You can dress it up or dress it down. It goes great with chinos or a suit and can be found in a wide range of blues so make sure to choose the shade that best fits your dominant color characteristic!

Athletic Top

As with the women’s trends, we are seeing so much gym-inspired clothing with new details and textiles to update and refresh knits of all kinds.  Check out this  baseball tee with elbow patches and the use of color blocking. You can certainly wear athletic inspired items with more polished items for a complete new look.

Corduroy Pant

Cords have never been a cooler option for the office or weekend wear.  You will find them in a range of browns and saturated burgundies for the wear anywhere colors. These can be worn with a sport coat or dressed down with a sporty sweatshirt.

Fashion Add-ons

Accessories are not just for the women.  Men have tie bars, boutonnieres, cuff links and pocket squares just to mention a few. Of course bow-ties are still a hot item too. These add on accessories are just the thing to take your look from “drab” to “fab”!

Layering is “the look” and the henley knit is a necessity for fall.  Use it to layer over a tee or under a sport coat or with a hoodie. Find a color and texture you like to add to your fall wardrobe this season.

Jog Pant

Going along with the sportswear theme this season is the new bottom that is now designed to complement all the  polished sportswear pieces.

Puffer –

This has been a favorite for a while.  They are ultra-light and easy to pack and easy to wear.  The puffy vests and jackets are the perfect  fall completer piece. It weighs nothing and you can stuff it in a backpack.

Tailored Vest

The vest can mix and match with almost everything in your closet. It can also be dressed up or dressed down.  It is another great completer piece to any man’s wardrobe.

This isn’t your grandpa’s work boot. Try a desert boot to a work wear-inspired option.  Updated soles and vintage leathers in contrasting colors are the top trends. The browns and camels are hot colors this fall.  Notice the British tan messenger bag for carrying either college books or client files.

Velvet Sport Coat

It’s not just for the holidays. It can be worn with jeans or a dress pant. You will find it in several jewel tone colors to add a touch of flash to your wardrobe.

Remember, it is just as important that men find the best colors in their clothing to fit their dominant color characteristics as it is for women. If you, or the man in your life you are shopping for, is a very slim and trim guy and you have a hard time finding things to fit and won’t look baggy, try Banana Republic.  I recently had a male client that was in this category and I was able to find pants and shirts in both “Slim” and “Tailored Slim” styles that fit perfectly.  You see ladies, men have body shape issues too!

Most Wanted List for Women for Fall 2014

2 Sep

Where did the summer go?!  I can’t believe it has come and gone already. I spent most of the summer traveling and speaking and met some wonderful and beautiful ladies along the way!

Of course, we will still have some more warm weather but it is definitely time to start thinking Fall Fashions!  Once again, I had the opportunity to attend the Fall 2014 Fashion preview at Belk with Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction and I am excited to share what’s new for the season in my next few blog posts.

Let’s start with the Most Wanted List for Women and the ten must-have items for the season.

Soft Pant

These pants were very popular in the spring and are carrying over to the fall. They are softly structured and often athletic inspired. Start with solids and work your way up to bold patterns. It is femininity with a sporty attitude. These mix well with  this white blouse. We are seeing the return of pearls – but not your mamma’s pearls (these are big and bold). Notice they are worn on the outside of the collar which is very trendy.

Longer Skirts

Skirt lengths are all over the place. This new trend is over the knee, mid-calf or all the way. Just remember that your best hem length is going to be in the “diamond” openings of your legs.  That is going to be most flattering on you and will work better for you than the latest trends.  Notice the cropped boxy sweater top she is wearing with this longer skirt and the ever-popular bootie shoe which is in trend again this season.

Creative Cardigan

This sweater is the season’s must have completer piece with new shapes,  trims and  textures. Let the layering begin! It’s like adding the 3rd piece to polish off an outfit and the versatility = value.

Novelty Vest

Furry, fluffy, quilted or tailored—the vest will make everything look great. It’s great to accessorize any look and is very versatile.  You can wear a vest with most anything.

Fashion Sweatshirt

We saw a lot of embellished sweatshirts last fall and  this item has continued its staying power. Fabric blocking and luxe embellishments have elevated this top from “so so” to seriously chic. It’s just not weekend wear with the embellishments or quilted or adding leather to the mix. It’s all in the details.

Tunic Top

This is one of my favorite types of tops to wear and is so good for most body types. This is a flattering length for most anyone and looks very polished. The high-low hems continue to be popular, as well as novelty fabrics. Notice the plaid which is big for fall also.

Midi Length Sheath

This dress is a  tried and true silhouette but with a little bit longer length. This is the dress that is always a classic and a must-have for most any wardrobe.

Statement Neck

This jewelry item can update and refresh anything! Notice the bold stones, chain details and burnished metals. A statement necklace will bring attention to the face where it needs to be.  Also notice that mixing metals is very in right now.

Over the Knee Boots

This is the #1 shoe of the season.  They feel modern and look very stylish. You can wear them with slim pants or skirts. You will find them  in vintage leathers and shiny leathers and in black, brown and the new color for fall -British Camel

Of course, my favorite wardrobe piece is always the handbag! This Michael Kors has a simple shape and subtle details.  It is a very classic hand held bag and is perfect to add a pop of color to your look.

Remember, you don’t have to wear every trend but just pick one or two that shows YOUR fashion personality!  Add a piece or two to your current wardrobe to give it the updated look for the season. Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Trends – Part 3

24 Mar

As I promised, here is the final Style Statement I learned about from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction,  for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming seasons. I shared Feminine Charms  and Clean Slate in my previous two posts (if you missed them, make sure and go back and look at them).

This Style Statement is called Jetsetter.  This is a tribal twist with a multi-cultural mix.  Details will include zippers, pockets, studs, grommets as well as ornate embellishments, tassels, fringe and frayed edges.  In all three of the Style Statements I have shared with you there has been a various range of textiles being used such as jacquards, silks, sheers, and linen.

hawian-inspired-dress-320x336   This fit and flare dress from Cynthia Rowley is shown in the popular floral print with a tribal twist. You will see some print mixes this season as well.  I know it is not for everyone but if done correctly, it can be fun.

print-skirt-shirt-320x480   This Karen Kane top and skirt has cut-outs and is in navy, which is a popular color this season as well.

bright-color-bag-320x444  Again, we are seeing the popular floral motif in accessories as well as in clothing as shown in this Kate Spade style handbag.

necklace-bracelet-320x480    This is a great Kenneth Cole white top with a statement necklace of beads and stones.  Mixing materials in an elegant way really makes a statement!

parrot-bag-320x477  This novel Mary Frances clutch purse is a whimsical work of art and definitely makes a fashion statement.

leather-jacket-320x213    Animal prints are still very hot this season.  Shown here is a zebra print Michael Kors dress with a soft leather jacket.  It looks very polished and very chic.

tied-heels1-320x482  These great Dolce Vita  shoes combine leather, animal print, rope and twine for a unique artistic style.

gold-jewelry-320x480  This Vince Camuto statement jewelry gives an ethnic feel to this basic top and adds a splash of adventure and fun.

bold-jewelry-320x482     This Michael Kors jewelry is made of tortoise and chains.  The longer length can be very flattering to elongate the body.  Layering of necklaces is also a very popular trend right now.

As I mentioned in my last post, just choose two or three of your favorite trends to add to your current wardrobe to update your look. Making sure they are in your best colors and styles for your body shape will be the key to a polished and very chic look.  Feel free to go out of your comfort zone and have fun with the different styles and accessories for the Spring and Summer seasons and express your individual Fashion Personality!   I don’t know about you but I am ready for Spring!

Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Trends- Part 2

18 Mar

As I promised, here is another Style Statement I learned about from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction,  for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming seasons. I shared Feminine Charms in my last post (if you missed it, make sure and go back and look at it) and I will be sharing the last Style Statement in my next post (so make sure you click the button to follow my posts).

This Style Statement is called Clean Slate.  It is going to consist of strong, sculptural shapes and understated elegance causing minimal chic to have maximum impact.  Sportif elements will also be a part of this style.

color-block-dress-320x428   You will see asymmetric detailing and architectural lines like in this shift dress from DKNY. The shift dress will be the dress of choice.

black-white-skirt-320x480  Black and White is showing up everywhere I go.This is from Kensie.  This is a great transition from winter to spring.  Add a pop of color to the black and white with a necklace, scarf, handbag or shoes.

lucite-heels-320x413  Speaking of shoes…. The “mule” style shoes shown in the picture above will be popular this season as well as these great Michael Kors shoes shown here.  You will see a lot of innovative materials being used like the lucite material in these.  Metallics will be prominent in shoes like silver, gold, pewter and rose gold.

black-pant-jacket-320x480  This is a jumpsuit with a “harem” pant and a cropped boxy jacket.  I haven’t seen much of this look yet and not sure I am a big fan but we will see….  This is from Eileen Fisher in the popular black and white.  Notice also these shoes that have a lot of coverage on the top of the shoe and ankle.

white-purse-320x444  This black and white Dooney & Bourke handbag is boxy in shape.  Some other  great accessories to add to your wardrobe will be bold cuffs, geometric pendants and  multi rings.  Strong and powerful accessories will be a must.

white-shell-skirt-320x480  This skirt is ruffled in more of a geometric way to go along with this strong style statement. It is from BCBG.

white-melon-sheath-320x480        This dress from Rachel Roy shows the color blocking that is still very popular but with a different twist.  The color blocking you will see this season is more curvy rather than the straight lines we have seen in previous seasons. I have already been seeing this trend in the stores.

Remember, you don’t have to try every trend for the new season.  Just pick one or two that fits your personal style and fashion personality and have fun with it.  Make sure what you choose are in colors and styles that are going to be most flattering  for your Dominant Color Characteristic and Body Shape so it will be the most flattering for YOU!  Make sure and follow my Blog for the next post in a few days where I will show you the final Style Statement for Spring/Summer 2014!

Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Statements

13 Mar

Hello Friends!

Let me start out by saying I am sorry it has been a few weeks since my last Blog post.  I have been very blessed with several speaking engagements and I have enjoyed meeting so many of you beautiful ladies!! If you know of a women’s group that is looking for a speaker, please contact me because I would love to meet you and share valuable information on fashion and creating your own personal style!

I am so excited to share with you some great information I learned recently from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, about the current trends for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming spring season. I will share the first one today and the other two in the next two Blog posts (I promise they will follow very soon).

The first Style Statement I want to tell you about is called “Feminine Charms”. You are definitely going to be seeing clothing and accessories with a feminine flare!

floral-pleat-dress-320x480  You will see dresses in fit and flare silhouettes like this one from Adriana Papell.  They will be in a little bit longer lengths (mid-calf /over the knee).  You will also see the floral patterns everywhere and in everything!

sweater-dress-320x482  Various types of textiles are being used in clothing this season but you will still see a lot of lace which has been very popular for a couple of seasons now. The shift (away from the body) and sheath (more fitting with a waist definition) dresses are very popular as well.  This one is from Marc Jacobs. Lots of white, white, white this season!

floral-necklace-320x428   Here you see accessories from Kate Spade in both the floral motif and in the popular white.  The statement necklace can add pizzazz to your outfit.

eyelet-ribbed-dress-320x423   You will want to make sure you look just as good leaving the room as you did coming into the room.  Many of the dresses and blouses this season will have some sort of cutout design in the back like this one from French Connection.

pastel-heels-320x427   These dreamy shoes from Steven are just an example of the new style of shoes you will be seeing everywhere.  Notice the details of the single-sole, the block-heel, and the ankle strap.

box-stitched-bag-320x427     Of course you know my favorite accessory is the perfect purse!  I love this one from Jessica Simpson in a beautiful blush shade of pink. You will see purses in smaller sizes, beautiful spring colors, quilting material, and lots of chains and metal accents.  Make sure to choose the metal (silver or gold) that is most flattering for your dominant color characteristic.

white-dress-320x480 Even though Pantone decided that “Radiant Orchid” is the color of the year for 2014, you are still going to see a lot of pink (my favorite color of course) in just about everything like this Pink Tartan dress.  You will see layers of pink from light to deep in a shade for almost everyone.

So even if the weather is still a little chilly where you are, it is time to start thinking Spring!  If you think it— it will come, right?!  I can’t wait to start wearing all the beautiful fashions and accessories for the new season!  What will be your favorite?

12 Days of Christmas Wish List Ideas

19 Dec

12 days of Christmas 3

If you have been following me on Facebook the past couple of weeks you know I have been giving you 12 ideas of some of my favorite fashion and beauty finds to add to your Christmas Wish List this year.  I am going to recap them now in case you have missed any and you can make that final trip to see Santa and get them on your list!

Item #1  Essie Cube of Nail Polish for Winter 2013.

It has 4 great colors for winter –
• Shearling Darling – ebony red
• Sable Collar – pearlescent cocoa plum
• Mind Your Mittens – black teal
• Toggle To The Top – sparkling garnet red

I am wearing “Sable Collar” now and I love it! “Toggle To The Top” will be great for Christmas! It is available at Ulta for $17.00 and I’m sure at other stores that carry the Essie brand.

Essie Cube of Nail Polish -Fall 2013

Item #2  Animal Print Scarf.

I love this animal print scarf I found at Chico’s! Scarves are very trendy right now and you can find them everywhere. Everyone can wear an animal print of some kind. Some may look better in leopard and some may look better in zebra (depending on your dominant color characteristic). Find one that looks best for your coloring and have fun with it!

They are very versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on what you wear them with. On the left it is paired with a black shift dress (looks great with a pair of black tights and black boots with a heel). On the right it is paired with a long t-shirt and sweater (looks great with skinny jeans and either tall riding boots or short booties).

Item #3 “They’re Real” Mascara by Benefit

This is a mascara that I absolutely love. It comes in jet black color and it lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts & separates and doesn’t smudge. It has won several awards for best mascara and can be found at Ulta, Sephora, Belk, Macys and everywhere the Benefit brand is sold. This would be a great stocking stuffer!

Item #4 Booties

While I still love my taller riding boots, I am also loving all the different variations of the bootie shoe which is trending this season! These can be worn with pants, skinny jeans and with tights and dresses. Here are a few variations I have found. Take your pick and put on your wish list!

Top Row:
Ivanka Trump from Belk, Andrew Geller Fabry from DSW, Xappeal from Rack Room Shoes
Bottom Row:
BCBG Panie Kerina from DSW, Calvin Klein from Belk, ZiGi Atop from Belk

Item #5 Gimme Brow

I was given this brow gel to try several months ago and I LOVE it! Making sure your eyebrows are neatly groomed and shaped is important to looking your very best. I like using this better than a pencil. The brush on fiber gel holds those tiny hairs in place all day. It is water resistant and very natural looking. It is made by Benefit.
Another great stocking stuffer to add to your list!

Item #6  Stylish Bible

I was given one of these small clutch bibles (like the one on the far left) a few years ago and I love it for traveling! It is small, lightweight, fits easily in my suitcase, and it is very Stylish too!Zondervan has a collection of Style Line Bibles that make great Christmas gifts for every Stylish girl!

PicMonkey Collage

Item #7 Ponte (pon-tee) Pants

You’ve got to add a pair (or 2) of these pants to your Christmas Wish List this year! (Or buy them now to wear to those Holiday parties.) These are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn and they are very fashionable too. Great for work or play. I purchased mine from Chico’s but I have seen them everywhere.

Ponte is a thick, double-knit fabric with two-way stretch. It fits your body and holds you in too. The thicker fabric gives you support and structure. (Much more than leggings) They are so comfortable and great for traveling (and packing too).

They are more fitted so remember the rule: If you wear fitted on bottom, wear loose and blousey on top. They are great with an over-sized or tunic sweater and a pair of the booties that were item #4!

Chicos Ponte Pant

Item #8 Accessories

I love to accessorize! This is how you can really let your personality shine in your outfits. By changing out your accessories you can take your work outfit to a party outfit by dressing it up a little. To learn more about accessorizing for the Holidays, check out my previous Blog post. Whether it be a beautiful new diamond or a piece or two of fun costume jewelry, make sure to ask Santa for something shiny and sparkly for your stocking this year!

Item #9 A great haircut and style

One of the most important things you can do to look your very best is to get a good haircut and style! This adds the finishing touch to looking your very best. Make sure you find a Hairstylist who listens to you and works with you to give you the best look for your face shape and personality. If you haven’t had a compliment on your hair in the past few weeks, it may be time to look for another stylist.

If you aren’t going to stay with your natural coloring, make sure he/she helps you choose the best hair color for YOU (not the latest trend or the color that looks good on your friend). Everyone looks best when they stick with a shade that is not too far off from the color God gave them. Choose a style that will be easy for you to do every morning. Take a picture of a style you like with you to your appointment and discuss it with your stylist to see if it will work with your specific hair type. It always gives me a boost in how I feel when I go to the salon and get my hair done. If you don’t have time to visit the salon before Christmas, add a gift certificate for a cut and style to your Christmas Wish List!

Item #10 Stylish Coat

With many of us already experiencing some pretty cold winter days (and we all know there are plenty more to come), it is important to add a stylish coat to your wardrobe! Don’t cover up that great outfit with an old worn out coat. Make sure to pick one that is a great color for you and also fits your body shape too. If you gain your weight around the middle, don’t choose one with a big tie belt around the waistline. Look for a longer, slimmer style with several buttons down the middle to create a long, lean line. If you gain weight in your hips and thighs, make sure to choose one that comes down past the derriere. Don’t forget to accessorize with a pretty scarf and gloves too!

Here are 3 that I found really cute (all from New York & Co.):

PicMonkey Collage - Coats

Item #11 A great purse!

If you know me, you know I LOVE a great purse so it would have to be on my wish list! It is a great accessory to finish off your look in style. Make sure you choose one that is the right size though. It should be in proportion to your frame size. If you are 5′ 2″, don’t choose one that is as big as a suitcase and if you are 5′ 8″, don’t choose one that is the size of a wallet. Proportion is key!

Also remember if you are choosing one to go with most of your outfits, choose one to match your hair color. It will look the very best! Here are some selections (all Michael Kors) to give you an example of what I’m talking about – to match your Dominant Color Characteristic.

Top Row:
This silver one is great for a “Cool” – Ladies with Silver or Salt & Pepper hair
This lighter one is great for a “Light” – Blondes

Middle Row:
This dark brown is great for a “Deep” – Dark brown hair with dark brown eyes
The other one is great for a “Warm” – Red heads

Bottom Row:
This lighter brown is great for a “Soft” -Light brown/Dishwater Blonde hair
This black one is great for a “Clear” – Dark hair and light eyes

Pick out a favorite and add a great new handbag to your Wish List today!
