Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Trends – Part 3

24 Mar

As I promised, here is the final Style Statement I learned about from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction,  for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming seasons. I shared Feminine Charms  and Clean Slate in my previous two posts (if you missed them, make sure and go back and look at them).

This Style Statement is called Jetsetter.  This is a tribal twist with a multi-cultural mix.  Details will include zippers, pockets, studs, grommets as well as ornate embellishments, tassels, fringe and frayed edges.  In all three of the Style Statements I have shared with you there has been a various range of textiles being used such as jacquards, silks, sheers, and linen.

hawian-inspired-dress-320x336   This fit and flare dress from Cynthia Rowley is shown in the popular floral print with a tribal twist. You will see some print mixes this season as well.  I know it is not for everyone but if done correctly, it can be fun.

print-skirt-shirt-320x480   This Karen Kane top and skirt has cut-outs and is in navy, which is a popular color this season as well.

bright-color-bag-320x444  Again, we are seeing the popular floral motif in accessories as well as in clothing as shown in this Kate Spade style handbag.

necklace-bracelet-320x480    This is a great Kenneth Cole white top with a statement necklace of beads and stones.  Mixing materials in an elegant way really makes a statement!

parrot-bag-320x477  This novel Mary Frances clutch purse is a whimsical work of art and definitely makes a fashion statement.

leather-jacket-320x213    Animal prints are still very hot this season.  Shown here is a zebra print Michael Kors dress with a soft leather jacket.  It looks very polished and very chic.

tied-heels1-320x482  These great Dolce Vita  shoes combine leather, animal print, rope and twine for a unique artistic style.

gold-jewelry-320x480  This Vince Camuto statement jewelry gives an ethnic feel to this basic top and adds a splash of adventure and fun.

bold-jewelry-320x482     This Michael Kors jewelry is made of tortoise and chains.  The longer length can be very flattering to elongate the body.  Layering of necklaces is also a very popular trend right now.

As I mentioned in my last post, just choose two or three of your favorite trends to add to your current wardrobe to update your look. Making sure they are in your best colors and styles for your body shape will be the key to a polished and very chic look.  Feel free to go out of your comfort zone and have fun with the different styles and accessories for the Spring and Summer seasons and express your individual Fashion Personality!   I don’t know about you but I am ready for Spring!

Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Trends- Part 2

18 Mar

As I promised, here is another Style Statement I learned about from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction,  for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming seasons. I shared Feminine Charms in my last post (if you missed it, make sure and go back and look at it) and I will be sharing the last Style Statement in my next post (so make sure you click the button to follow my posts).

This Style Statement is called Clean Slate.  It is going to consist of strong, sculptural shapes and understated elegance causing minimal chic to have maximum impact.  Sportif elements will also be a part of this style.

color-block-dress-320x428   You will see asymmetric detailing and architectural lines like in this shift dress from DKNY. The shift dress will be the dress of choice.

black-white-skirt-320x480  Black and White is showing up everywhere I go.This is from Kensie.  This is a great transition from winter to spring.  Add a pop of color to the black and white with a necklace, scarf, handbag or shoes.

lucite-heels-320x413  Speaking of shoes…. The “mule” style shoes shown in the picture above will be popular this season as well as these great Michael Kors shoes shown here.  You will see a lot of innovative materials being used like the lucite material in these.  Metallics will be prominent in shoes like silver, gold, pewter and rose gold.

black-pant-jacket-320x480  This is a jumpsuit with a “harem” pant and a cropped boxy jacket.  I haven’t seen much of this look yet and not sure I am a big fan but we will see….  This is from Eileen Fisher in the popular black and white.  Notice also these shoes that have a lot of coverage on the top of the shoe and ankle.

white-purse-320x444  This black and white Dooney & Bourke handbag is boxy in shape.  Some other  great accessories to add to your wardrobe will be bold cuffs, geometric pendants and  multi rings.  Strong and powerful accessories will be a must.

white-shell-skirt-320x480  This skirt is ruffled in more of a geometric way to go along with this strong style statement. It is from BCBG.

white-melon-sheath-320x480        This dress from Rachel Roy shows the color blocking that is still very popular but with a different twist.  The color blocking you will see this season is more curvy rather than the straight lines we have seen in previous seasons. I have already been seeing this trend in the stores.

Remember, you don’t have to try every trend for the new season.  Just pick one or two that fits your personal style and fashion personality and have fun with it.  Make sure what you choose are in colors and styles that are going to be most flattering  for your Dominant Color Characteristic and Body Shape so it will be the most flattering for YOU!  Make sure and follow my Blog for the next post in a few days where I will show you the final Style Statement for Spring/Summer 2014!

Spring & Summer 2014 Fashion Statements

13 Mar

Hello Friends!

Let me start out by saying I am sorry it has been a few weeks since my last Blog post.  I have been very blessed with several speaking engagements and I have enjoyed meeting so many of you beautiful ladies!! If you know of a women’s group that is looking for a speaker, please contact me because I would love to meet you and share valuable information on fashion and creating your own personal style!

I am so excited to share with you some great information I learned recently from Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, about the current trends for Spring and Summer 2014!  There are three specific Style Statements that have been created to give you an idea of what to look for and to add to your current wardrobe for the upcoming spring season. I will share the first one today and the other two in the next two Blog posts (I promise they will follow very soon).

The first Style Statement I want to tell you about is called “Feminine Charms”. You are definitely going to be seeing clothing and accessories with a feminine flare!

floral-pleat-dress-320x480  You will see dresses in fit and flare silhouettes like this one from Adriana Papell.  They will be in a little bit longer lengths (mid-calf /over the knee).  You will also see the floral patterns everywhere and in everything!

sweater-dress-320x482  Various types of textiles are being used in clothing this season but you will still see a lot of lace which has been very popular for a couple of seasons now. The shift (away from the body) and sheath (more fitting with a waist definition) dresses are very popular as well.  This one is from Marc Jacobs. Lots of white, white, white this season!

floral-necklace-320x428   Here you see accessories from Kate Spade in both the floral motif and in the popular white.  The statement necklace can add pizzazz to your outfit.

eyelet-ribbed-dress-320x423   You will want to make sure you look just as good leaving the room as you did coming into the room.  Many of the dresses and blouses this season will have some sort of cutout design in the back like this one from French Connection.

pastel-heels-320x427   These dreamy shoes from Steven are just an example of the new style of shoes you will be seeing everywhere.  Notice the details of the single-sole, the block-heel, and the ankle strap.

box-stitched-bag-320x427     Of course you know my favorite accessory is the perfect purse!  I love this one from Jessica Simpson in a beautiful blush shade of pink. You will see purses in smaller sizes, beautiful spring colors, quilting material, and lots of chains and metal accents.  Make sure to choose the metal (silver or gold) that is most flattering for your dominant color characteristic.

white-dress-320x480 Even though Pantone decided that “Radiant Orchid” is the color of the year for 2014, you are still going to see a lot of pink (my favorite color of course) in just about everything like this Pink Tartan dress.  You will see layers of pink from light to deep in a shade for almost everyone.

So even if the weather is still a little chilly where you are, it is time to start thinking Spring!  If you think it— it will come, right?!  I can’t wait to start wearing all the beautiful fashions and accessories for the new season!  What will be your favorite?

New Year – New Closet!

7 Jan

Fotosearch_u25473211

If you are stuck in the house during this bitter cold weather most of us are experiencing, it is a great time to organize your closet!  Maybe you received new clothes for Christmas and need to make room for them in your closet.  Remember… new things in – old things out! Getting organized is one of the number 1 New Year’s Resolutions and did you know January is “National Get Organized Month”?  I posted these steps back in the fall but thought it would be a good time to post them again.

Your closet is one of the fastest places to get cluttered but it should be one of the most valued spaces in your home because it contains all the clothes that make you look and feel fabulous!

Here are some steps to help you get started on getting your closet ready for the new season:

Step One:

  • Set aside plenty of time to organize your closet.  If you don’t have time to do it all at once, take a section at a time.

Step Two:

  • Remove everything from your closet so that you are starting with a clean slate

Step Three:

  • Try on everything and make sure it still fits, it is still in style, it is still in good shape, it is your best color and fits your body type, you have things to go with it and it is something you would buy today. Make piles for “Keep”, “Mend”, “Donate” and “Toss”. Don’t forget to do the same thing with your underwear, bras, shoes, purses, belts, scarves and other accessories.

Step Four:

  • Clean and Laundry everything that needs it before putting back in the closet. If things need to be mended, make sure you do this as quickly as possible. Take the things to be donated to your car so you can drop them off the next time you are out. Get rid of the items in the “Toss” pile immediately.

Step Five:

  • Put all “Keep” items back in your closet. You can decide how to place the items back in the closet based on what will suit your needs best.  Separate by season and then you can separate by purpose, type, length, style or color or a combination of these.  Hang as much of your clothing as possible where you can see each garment easily.  If it is in a drawer out of sight, it is out of mind and will seldom get worn.

Step Six:

  • Be proud of your accomplishment!
  • Remember if you bring in something new, something old needs to go out.

Other Helpful Tips:

  • Use the same type of hangers and make sure all items are hanging in the same direction.
  • Stuff boots with rolled up magazines or boot trees so they retain their shape.
  • Stuff handbags with tissue paper and store on a shelf.
  • Leave breathing room in between items so they aren’t jammed in to prevent wrinkles.
  • Store small, loose items like socks, lingerie, bathing suits, pantyhose, etc. in drawer systems, baskets or clear plastic containers.
  • Hang accessories on hooks in your closet.
  • Take shoes out of their original boxes and store on some type of shoe rack.
  • Keep a basket in the closet to place items to take to dry cleaners.
  • Keep a small wastebasket in the closet.
  • Fill a small basket with last minute fix-up items: lint brush or roller, pin-cushion, small scissors, etc.
